This website was built during Covid-19 to enable the first tenants from Dover to see the house remotely and it's intended to provide additional pictures and videos to the details provided by Sowerbys. The website is deliberately not published on search engines and can only be disseminated using the path at top of browser.
The house is located on the edge of the marshes, overlooking a broads, about 3 miles from the A47 and local shops in Acle (railway station). Norwich (mainline railway station to London Liverpool St.) is 11 miles.
Reed Bunting
The house is located on a private road with views over South Walsham Broad which is part of the Norfolk Broads National Park.
The area is popular with walkers, canoeists and bird watchers. Walkers often use the paths along the rivers, across the marshes and through Norfolk Wildlife Trust Upton Broad and Marshes . Canoeists can access the private Broad within Fairhaven Gardens, visit St Benet's Abbey or take longer journeys to Ranworth, Ludham or Potter Heigham. Bird watching is good, can see and hear Marsh Harriers, Barn Owls, Cranes, King Fishers and heard Cuckoos and Bitterns.
Being flat and rural the area is great for cycling with routes around the broads and out to the coastal road north from Winterton. This Broadland Church Trail map shows the local quiet roads between Acle, through South Walsham to Wroxham where there is a path west out to Aylsham beside the Bure Valley Railway. Heading south the roads are also quiet and the Reedham ferry gives access towards Beccles (18 miles) and north Suffolk.
In the local village there is The Ship pub (currently for rent) or with a 2 mile walk (path through Upton Fen or around marshes) or cycle to The White Horse Upton community pub with log fire in the winter. The small local Ranworth Beer Festival in August is a 2 mile cycle, walk or canoe.
Norwich Cathedral
Norwich has lots of medieval buildings (castle, cathedral, churches, halls), especially in the Tomblands/Lanes area in the city centre. In the spring the cathedral has resident Peregrines , pigeons beware! Critically importantly, Strangers Coffee can be found in the Lanes.
